TIPS FOR GETTING STARTED
Trail running can seem impressive at first but you'll be just fine as long as you have the right gear and preparation. Here are some simple tips to follow.
The right path
#1
THE RIGHT PATH

Make sure you seek advice as to the perfect path to go on your first run. You may want to research online or ask your local trail running community but in all cases keep it simple at first and remember an easy hike may not always translate into an easy run. Besides, keep in mind that distances in the mountains are not equivalent to distances in road running: don't expect to cover the same distance as elevation needs some getting used to.

THE RIGHT GEAR

First make sure you have the right shoes. Trail running shoes are designed for enhanced stability, traction and grip to keep you sure-footed on all types of terrain. Then choose the lightest gear possible but don't forget to bring a running pack with enough water and energy snacks, as well as a light windbreaker or extra layer for added protection in case of wind or cooler temperatures.

The right pace
#3
THE RIGHT PACE

While going out on your first run, you'll notice you need to adapt your pace to the terrain. So be prepared to fast-hike, or even walk while making your way uphill, increase your pace on flat terrain and let yourself enjoy a smooth run downhill.
The right reflexes
#4
THE RIGHT REFLEXES

Trail running implies new reflexes like keeping your attention focused on the trail to anticipate any root, rock or uneven terrain. A golden rule in the moutain: stop if you want to admire the scenery.
GEAR PACKING LIST
Weather conditions can change very quickly in the mountains. We recommend packing gear that keeps you comfortable, protected and focused on your run.
shell
SHELL
A shell protects you from the wind and from the rain and stops your body temperature dropping too much, especially when slowing down your pace or stopping.
SHORTS OR TIGHTS
Never underestimate weather conditions in the mountains. Shorts might seem like a good idea when setting off but you might find tights are more appropriate when higher up.
SHOES
It goes without saying: shoes are probably the most important piece of equipment for any trail runner. Choose a pair with plenty of grip and traction so you feel confident in any condition.
shell
T-SHIRT OR BASELAYER
Depending on the season, you'll need to wear either a simple t-shirt, or a warmer baselayer. You might want to pack 2 as you may feel like changing for a dry one when stopping.
shell
GLOVES
Keep your hands warm and dry when temperatures drop with lightweight gloves featuring touch screen compatible finger tips.
shell
HAT
Whether it's to protect you from the sun or from the cold, a hat is a must have on the trail.
